The UK’s leading accommodation marketplace for dog-friendly stays has discovered that Labradors are once again the UK’s most popular dog breed, followed by Cockapoos and Springer Spaniels. The platform surveyed 2,000 dog owners about their four-legged friends, as well as their holiday habits, which found that 73% book their holidays based on the needs of their pets.
The UK’s leading accommodation marketplace for pet-friendly properties has conducted research into British dog owners and discovered that Labradors are once again the most popular dog breed in the UK.
According to the data, over a tenth (12%) of dog owners have a Labrador, closely followed by Cockapoos (8%) and Springer Spaniels (6%).
The research, conducted by Dog Friendly Cottages, also looked at the holiday habits of more than 2,000 dog owners and found that three quarters (73%) of people book holiday destinations based on the needs of their dogs.
Last year it was revealed that Labradors returned to be the UK’s most popular dog, after being knocked off the podium by French Bulldogs in 2018.
According to Dog Friendly Cottage’s data, only 0.5% of dog owners own a French Bulldog in 2020. The Royal Veterinary College released a study in mid-2018 which concluded that the breed suffers with significant health problems, including conjunctivitis and skin fold dermatitis, which could be a reason behind the breed’s decline.

Dog Friendly Cottages also asked British dog owners what the best dog-related experiences they’ve had are, and used the results to create a ‘bucket list’ of activities for members of the public to use as inspiration.

When asked to list their dog’s favourite experience, three quarters (75%) said long countryside walks, over half (59%) answered relaxing in the local beer garden, closely followed by splashing around in the sea (57%).
The survey also found that more than half (57%) of dog owners say they feel their pets deserve a holiday too, with 87% admitting to feeling guilty about leaving their pet behind when they go away.
